Encuentros Leadership Academy
In 2006, a pilot program began in June 2006 for the Encuentros Leadership Academy. This annual one-week residential program now includes approximately 60 middle and high school aged Latino boys each year. Central to the Academy activities is the residency experience. Under the leadership of a Leadership Team, students learn to plan, organize, and manage their daily responsibilities while being assigned to a dormitory team. Leadership skill building is emphasized through group and team activities and through leadership classes taught by college professors and business leaders. The Leadership Academy aims to offer a healthy learning environment that highlights the importance of culture, self-respect, building positive relationships, improving academic skills, developing an inventory of leadership competencies and beginning the process toward a successful educational roadmap for life.
2011 ENCUENTROS MINI LEADERSHIP ACADEMY - NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS
Encuentros Leadership is piloting a new mini Leadership Academy on July 8 and 9, 2011. Due to the small size, the academy will be limited to a small number of 10th and 11th grade Latino boys in the Oceanside, Carlsbad and San Diegito school districts only.
